Book Review: Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan

Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan (4 Stars)

What a surprising read! This book is filled with depth - our main character Ali is going through a divorce, the grief from losing her Mom and honestly, losing herself as a Mom who has done everything for everyone for so long and not doing anything for herself.

We see Ali really walk through standing up for herself, falling in love again and talking through things with her 3 kids. Her as a mother was so relatable for me in different ways. We are just trying to do the best we can, even when we lose ourselves in the process.

Ali runs into Ethan -- literally with her dog peeing on his leg LOL -- and doesn't really recognize him as someone she knew from high school. They go on many dates and he helps with the divorce from her husband since he's knowledgeable in law. They get to really know one another and they start falling for one another. Will it be more than just a summer romance? Will they be able to make things work?

This book certainly brings the emotions front and center, but also has the beauty of a summer romance beach read. Maybe this was a more relatable read for me as a mother myself but I really liked our characters and what everyone was going through.

The romance was cute and closed door, which I appreciated.

Overall, excited to find a new, closed door romance author!

Content warnings:

- divorce and the process of getting it finalized
- loss of a parent and grief associated with it
- death on page of a loved one and funeral shown
- language: s word, several GD words - didn't love those but it was 4-5 times I believe
- sexual content is closed door with fade to black bedroom scenes outside of marriage.
