Book Review: Shadowed Witness by Angela Carlisle

Book 2 in The Secrets of Kincaid Series 

Another great read by Angela Carlisle! I am really enjoying her writing style and this series.

This book was really fast paced with a good balance of romance. From the first chapter, you are drawn into Allye Jessup's world....she is a photographer who believes she's witnessed a murder, yet wakes up bruised, disoriented and without proof. She is the sister to Bryce Jessup in book 1 and we see Bryce and Corina a bit in this one too from book 1.

Allye reports the incident to local police, which brings in Detective Eric Thornton to take the case. He cares for Allye and is very protective of her throughout the story, as he can tell something is going on with her. Allye has been through a lot lately with her health as well - a mystery illness with some series brain fog and memory issues. This leaves her second guessing what she saw but as things continue to get even more weird....she knows it couldn't be her mind betraying her. She realizes soon this is the real deal. 

What I appreciated most was the way the story handled doubt....both in her mind and in faith. Allye’s struggle with her health and memory made her a more layered character and the inclusion of those internal battles added depth to the threats she faced. I was proud I guessed the bad guy and the reason for the medical issue she was having! (I never guess these things haha)  I think I would have liked a little more of their romance bits together but overall I would recommend as a good Christian romantic suspense series! Looking forward to book 3 next year!

Book Review: Fearless by Lauren Roberts

Fearless by Lauren Roberts Book 3 in the Powerless Trilogy 3 Stars OK, let’s dive into the review! I have sat with this all day and I think I’m going to land on 3 stars for this one. Books 1 and 2 were solid 4 star reads for me, and while my experience reading book 3 felt like a 4-star moment....mainly because I was in that UNWELL STATUS and absolutely NEEDED to know what was happening....it didn’t quite hold up in the end. You know those "drop everything and read" moments? That was ME! Her writing is great and addictive - but looking at the book itself, it felt a little all over the place.   Lending a Paw by Laurie Cass - 4 Stars  Book 1 in A Bookmobile Cat Mystery Series This was a fun introduction to a new cozy mystery series with a cute cat sleuth helping along the way! With the help of her rescue cat, Eddie, librarian Minnie Hamilton is driving a bookmobile in the resort town of Chilson, Michigan. Things happen she least expects when Eddie runs off and finds the body of a local man in town..... Minnie is ready to let the police solve the case but Eddie seems to smell a rat! Together they work to find the killer.  This was a really fun one to read while I was recovering from having surgery this last week! :) As a gift from my friend Tammy, I am so glad I read it! (And that I had my kitty Simba right there with me while I read it was a cute bonus!) Eddie is a stubborn kitty and I LOVED THAT!
