Hot Pot Murder - Jennifer Chow - 4 Stars - A sizzling mystery that leaves you hungry for more! (Book 2 in the LA Night Market Series)


Hot Pot Murder picks up where we left off after Death by Bubble Tea with Yale and Celine back at the center of armature sleuthing and whipping up some great eats! This delightful and mouthwatering mystery combines the intrigue of a whodunit with the delectable world of hot pot dining. I had such a great time getting back into this series! 

Our girls find themselves in the middle of a murder mystery when Jeffery Vue, president of the local restaurant association, receives a literal shock to his system and dies. We also see Detective Strauss back in action - although I would have liked to see more of him in this one. 

What makes these cozies so much fun is the author's ability to weave the cultural elements seamless into the story. She effortlessly explores the intricate dynamics of family and tradition and gives us a glimpse into the customers and traditions of Chinese cuisine and the close-knit communities that surround them. I am always so hungry when I read these books! 

If you are in the mood for a delicious blend of murder mystery and culinary delights - this series is a must read ya'll!

  Lending a Paw by Laurie Cass - 4 Stars  Book 1 in A Bookmobile Cat Mystery Series This was a fun introduction to a new cozy mystery series with a cute cat sleuth helping along the way! With the help of her rescue cat, Eddie, librarian Minnie Hamilton is driving a bookmobile in the resort town of Chilson, Michigan. Things happen she least expects when Eddie runs off and finds the body of a local man in town..... Minnie is ready to let the police solve the case but Eddie seems to smell a rat! Together they work to find the killer.  This was a really fun one to read while I was recovering from having surgery this last week! :) As a gift from my friend Tammy, I am so glad I read it! (And that I had my kitty Simba right there with me while I read it was a cute bonus!) Eddie is a stubborn kitty and I LOVED THAT! I highly recommend this book as I was fully immersed in the story and characters.  Set during the Gilded Age in New York, we see the strength of the Stanhope women following the passing of Arthur Stanhope. Left uncertain of their future paths, Junietta, Sylvia, and Adelaide grapple with the ramifications of Arthur's will and the looming uncertainty surrounding their family's estate.
